The following is the ling to my Pinterest page:

After watching the videos on Lynda.com and reading the references that we were provided for this assignment, I found Pinterest to be such a great resource for teachers of all subjects. I have learned some great ways that I can utilize this great Web tool. I learned that Pinterest is for more than just looking at photos of merchandise or recipes that you would like to learn to make. It is a very powerful tool for teachers of all grade levels. Besides the videos that we watch on Lynda.com, Pinterest has a quick guide, for those of us that are new to using it. Part of all the Web tools that are have brought to us a revolution in ways that we do things, see things, and seek information. Our younger generations are savvier and more aware of thing happening around the world, so for that reason I see that Pinterest can be a way for students to do assignments, research papers, and examination preps, and if used constructively, it will help them with these tasks. Pinterest is one of the most useful, and perhaps the most interesting, applications for students, teachers, and parents. Since Pinterest platform is a visual pin board, it allows users to pin images from blogs and websites, making it easier for users to refer to them at a later time. Pinterest can be used effectively for educational purposes and some of the ways that I can see how I can use it to teach a technology education class are the following: First of all, I can add subject specific images to use in class assignment or discussion. Pinterest has an immense amount of information across so many topics. You can find interesting bits of information that can give an edge to presentations or research papers. Besides doing project research on categories such as history, education, science, and technology, to name just some, you can just pin stuff you like for future reference. Another way that I can see Pinterest as a way to enhance learning and at the same time make it fun for the students, you can find crafts and other projects for the classroom. There are Do-it-yourself (DIY) and Crafts categories that would give teachers and students ideas, which can definitely be used to make learning more fun and spark their creative side at a reasonable and affordable price. Pinterest packs a lot of information in one neat little graphic, also known as infographics, which can be used as a reference for class assignments. Pinterest can be used to find new books to read. There is a limitless amount of films, music, and books for teachers to share with their class or parents who are looking for new reading material to assist their children. Teachers can create a reading list and set timeframes for students to read books, or even set a reading club. There are plenty of Education Technology boards in Pinterest boards to share articles, collections, and items available online. This is a great social networking tool that can be used for educational purposes, whether you are a teacher or a student. This tool can make it possible to create boards for specific projects and to collect and share lesson resources. It allows you to browse boards that other members have created on a variety of educational topics. As I browsed I found boards that cover material that I was looking for and that I can link to as an additional resource for the classroom or lesson planning. Pinterest can be used as an organizational tool for the information that is found online and that can use in the classroom. I found that it was very easy to Pin the sites that I found to a board for any topic so that I can access the information when I need it. Pinterest can be a place to post class schedules, syllabus, assignments, as well as additional resources for the classes. Finally, Pinterest is a great way for teachers, students and parents to work on group projects to share resources and generate discussions on research that was done. The visual appeal that is presented in Pinterest makes it an ideal platform for students to organize the information that is collected.

  1. I agree with the fact that Pinterest has a lot of great resources displayed neatly. I like how you stated that it is a visual pin board because that is what I think makes Pinterest so great and easy to use. If I like something I can just save it and whenever I need to I can easily go search for it and it is quickly accessible.

  4. I also think that Pinterest is a good tool to use when the students are doing research. I agree that the boards make it so easy for us to collect pins that we will use for future reference. I will be creating boards to begin collecting pins for upcoming TEKS.

  5. With PInterest, I also use boards for creativity and DIY ideas! I use this for both personal reasons and for use in my classroom. I like to be able to find ideas and to save them easily, in an organized way. Pinterest is truly a teacher's dream! We have so many ideas and lessons that we would like to do and we are naturally organizers! It is cool to be able to do both in such a simple way.

    Great blog!

  6. Enrique,
I, too, had the misconception that Pinterest was just for retail advertising, photos, and recipes. However, after maneuvering and discovering many of the education boards available I am now a huge fan of Pinterest. I agree with the fact that our new generation of students is much more keen and interested in the new media platforms, such as this. Therefore, it would be wise of teachers to implement Pinterest ideas, and the site itself in their classrooms.

  7. Hello Enrique,
I am glad I was not one of the only ones that was at the beginning stages of pinterest use. I had used it before, but had not had the correct information on how to navigate through this web tool. I also think it's a great learning tool for teachers, and I was able to find some great resources and visuals for some of the activities I will be working on this week. It's great to hear you found it useful. Thank you for sharing.

  8. Hello Enrique,

You make an excellent point when you highlight one of the major benefits of using Pinterest: collaboration. On my campus, and in the educational sector as a whole, student collaboration has been a major focus for schools; with much research highlighting the educational benefits of students collaborating with their peers. Having the option to compile resources and being easily visible for others to see, I agree that Pinterest would be an excellent web tool for students to use in the classroom to encourage collaboration amongst their peers. Thanks for an excellent suggestion!
