I had used Google Drive before, but I never knew how many tools it has to offer. I can really see Google Drive as a great tool to utilize in the classroom. It has a wealth of learning and productivity tools that are available online, to students and educators, alike. It offers resources on the Web to meet all the needs for students to study and teachers to assist with the learning. The collection of collaborative solutions that it provides for writing papers, organizing presentations and putting together spreadsheets and reports is amazing. I really like how you can use Google Docs to do all the functions that Microsoft Office has to offer, and it is free. On top of it, you get 15 Gb of space for free, and the Google Docs don’t count against the space limitations. By going from traditional classroom and paper or computer-resident writing systems into the cloud could see as a hard task, but the end result is worth it. By taking advantage of the capabilities of Google Drive, teachers can explore their students’ writing process in depth, at the click of a link, and provide them with regular and dynamic feedback.

With Google Drive students can create a variety of content, such as word processing documents. Students can create new documents and have the ability to share documents with others. When students share a document, the teacher will have the ability to not only view the document, but to make revisions or comments in real time, as long as the students choose the “can edit” option and give share privileges. Also the share/feedback feature is a very powerful teaching tool, which instead of emailing documents back and forth, the teacher can access the Google Drive and find and open the student’s papers and make comments and corrections to the students’ papers, in real-time. Once the student’s paper is complete, it is really easy to copy from Google Drive in several formats, including MS Word and PDF.

I really like the capabilities that Google Drive provides about forms and survey. I learn how a teacher can create forms/surveys and those can actually become quizzes. Doing the assignment, I learn how I can utilize this feature to create quizzes and to track the responses that the students provide. It is You can track the history of revisions. Google Drive also makes it easy to track revisions and a document’s history. After you make comments on your students’ writing and they make changes, you can go back and trace the alterations the students made. Right after the teacher reviews the assignment, the teacher will have better sense of how responsive students have been to the feedback and perhaps see ways to can make the feedback more effective.

Google Drive has advance features for teachers that are available at the Chrome store. One of my favorite new techniques is the use of voice notes, by using the free Learn.ly Voice Comments tool. Learn.ly incorporates spoken comments into any Google Drive document. This is a great way to provide broader feedback.

I really enjoyed learning the many powerful tools that are available in Google Drive and can see the many benefits to every teacher. I look forward to using it in the classroom.

  1. Hi Enrique, I, like you, had used Google Drive before but I didn't know how many tools it had to offer until now. I also like how Google Docs doesn't take up any of your space. I think that using the tools in the Google Drive is going to make school more interesting and fun for our students.

  2. Hello Enrique,
I agree with you in that many of us have previously used google, however the tutorial provided a more i depth understanding of the many different tools. The drive provides more than just creating a form it offers many extensions that everyone can take advantage of. From teachers using it in the classroom and to collaborate and students to apply in the homework or creating presentations and documents. Not to mention that it automatically saves the material and it stores it in the cloud. The capacity it provides to store the material are in no comparison to other platforms. Thank you Enrique for sharing

  3. Enrique,

I am super excited about showing my students what is available to them using Google Drive. Many of my students have smartphones but no access to a computer at home. This free service can help them type writing assignments without a computer or Microsoft office. I think this will be extremely help for for all students to collaborate on their group projects.

  6. Hi Enrique,

I think Google drive products are amazing for students who do not possess computers with microsoft office products. I think that The google products provide a good alternative for editing important homework files on the go, and checking power points and etc. These products can be a lifesaver because you have the ability to check them on your phone or tablet as well. I think that many students can really benefit from these technologies because they can see their classmates work as well.
