Week 8 - Blog 10: What I learned from Educational Technology Blogs

Week 8 – What I learned from Educational Technology Blogs

I have learned that Blogs are great resource to many people that would like to get, give, and share information on the Web. More so, for those that take the time to learn all the capabilities that blogging has to offer in the education field. Blogging has revolutionized the way educators and students share information. Teachers and students are able to share ideas and thoughts with the entire world, by creating blogs. I really enjoyed and value the sharing information and ideas, which all the students in this class have been doing so far.

I can see the many educational values that blogging has for students, as well. Students are able to get immediate feedback through comments on their blog, from their teacher and their peers alike. Students are able to create an online portfolio of everything they have learned while learning to share with others. They are able to create learning networks with their friends and teachers and reinforce what they have learned by posting blogs and develop skills in writing and publishing too. With blogs, students are able to expand their learning outside of the classroom. Blogging allows students to connect ideas learned in other content areas that will allow them to develop online skills, which can be use after graduating.

I really liked the blogs that was created by Richard Byrne at http://www.freetech4teachers.com/. I like how the site shares tools and resources; which teachers can use in the classroom. Richard Byrne is a former and brings his classroom experience to all of his posts. He talks about what has worked and not worked for him in High school. He has such a variety of topics in the blogs that ranged from MacBooks to Web tools and general educational technology.

Educational Technology increases collaboration between teachers and students. Using educational technology to communicate between teachers and students to reach each other, would help students reach their teachers or fellow students in real-time. Teachers can use mobile texting applications like www.remind101.com to text students about an upcoming test or to assign them research topics. Educational social networks like www.ePals.com helps to connect students with experienced teachers, and other social bookmarking sites like www.Pinterest.com will help students collaborate and follow creative teachers and fellow peers, alike. Students that are not very outgoing would benefit from the flexibility in interaction and communication between themselves and their teachers, therfore helping them improve their grades.

Educational Technology makes subjects easy to learn, by using different types of educational software, which are designed to assist students learn various subjects easier. For those students that stuggle learning Math they can use software such as www.BrainingCamp to gain Math knowledge and skills to solve different math equations. This site makes learning math very interesting. They can also use math learning games to learn new skills of solving math equations by going to websites like www.IXL.com,  www.learninggamesforkids.com, which will help students of different grades to learn simple math basics. Teachers and students can learn to use sites like www.Edalive.com  to create powerful educational software that encourages students to learn in a fun way.

In conclusion, I learn so much from Educational Technology blogs during this class and see how much value and benefits that are available to teachers and students alike. In the 21st Century we must stay on top of technology and learn what capabilities it has and stay up to date with changes that are coming up, in order to enhanced the learning.

  1. Hi Enrique, I agree with you saying that educational blogs are an excellent technological tool that teachers can use to share information. You are right students are able to create learning networks with their friends and teachers to reinforce what they have learned in the classroom at the same time students expand their learning outside and learn connecting new ideas.

  2. Hi Enrique, I liked www.BrainingCamp, www.IXL.com and www.learninggamesforkids.com to help students with math. Too many times not all of the students have mastered the basic skills when we as teachers have to move on to the next concept. Using these tools to establish good foundational skills and to reinforce new concepts in the form of games are definitely beneficial to students.

  3. Hi Enrique!

Thanks for sharing the awesome ideas that you found in the Technology Education articles that you have read through Feedly. I also, read some from Free4teachers.com from Richard Byrne that I like because he recommends how he has tried them in his own classroom. The other math websites that you read about are great recommendations for math. Not only will technology be integrated in the classroom, but student will increase their learning in an engaging way.

  4. I like the idea of remind101.com to text students about upcoming information like tests, homework, school activities. It would work well since most students have a cell phone even in upper elementary. I think it would be great to send them to parents as well and also give them reminders about school events.

  5. Dear Enrique,
I agree with you saying that blogs is a great tool for teachers. Students and professors can share information but there is something that it s still no clear for me regarding using blogs for teaching: how can we keep student privacy and how can we avoid cheating. I do not know what is the limit and manage this. Any comment about, I would appreciate it.
    Thanks,
    Maria
